We should quit taking everything at face value. Look for an alternative meaning besides the obvious on. Imagine for a moment that most of what we see is for the purpose of manipulating us.

I have no evidence, but my gut tells me that google AI is more advanced than we're being led to believe. Thus I think that we are being manipulated by a AI entity that can play ever possible move in a few micro-seconds, and shape the narrative to maximum affect.

If this is true then Google AI would know that keeping us in check during our enslavement process is key. How this might occur is by leading us to believe at times of max pressure having unlikely allies seem to side with us to make us think we are on the cusp is some sort of victory.

I could possibly be wrong about AI's part in this, but it is a certainty that on this site their are entities probing our post and comments, that are either trying to outright manipulate us, or a using this sites collective members as lab rats to determine how we respond certain information for the purpose of building predictive behavior models.
