Your reaction is the right one. Under most circumstances and most journalists, I would not have posted this story as it currently stands. However, Sperry has been doing this a long, long time and he has an extremely high accuracy rate when he drops stuff like this.
There's only a handful of reporters where I would have felt okay posting this story and Sperry is one of the few.
Good point. I have no context info about Sperry, but with what you mentioned, this makes it much more plausible.
Your instincts are spot on though, AOL. Warms my black heart when I see someone questioning sources and corroboration on here.
