Yes. People have a misplaced fondness for Lincoln that is comparable to the hate that people today have for Trump. I hate Lincoln and it is my opinion that he is the worst elected President in the history of this country. Lincoln is credited with freeing slaves, but this just isn't really true, just a twisted version of history. The Emancipation Proclamation wasn't even made until 18 months into the Civil War as a last ditch effort by Lincoln to drum up support for a war that the north was losing. Lincoln made it very clear in some of his quotes that the true purpose for the war was "to preserve the Union". Lincoln's true legacy is not the freeing of slaves, but rather the over-encroaching, imperial Federal Government which we have today. Lincoln opened the door for a string of horrible presidents, chief among them being Woodrow Wilson who brought us the Fed and income taxes (this time to stay) as well as drag the US into a foreign war which we had no business being a part of. Icing on the cake is a quote from Lincoln on August 21, 1858 in a debate:
I will say here, while upon this subject, that I have no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere with the institution of slavery in the States where it exists. I believe I have no lawful right to do so, and I have no inclination to do so. I have no purpose to introduce political and social equality between the white and the black races. There is a physical difference between the two, which, in my judgment, will probably forever forbid their living together upon the footing of perfect equality, and inasmuch as it becomes a necessity that there must be a difference, I, as well as Judge Douglas, am in favor of the race to which I belong having the superior position."
Strictly speaking, that is white supremacy. I highly recommend the book The Real Lincoln by Thomas DiLorenzo.
