There was a judge that got in trouble for doing this. Some young boy (young teen?) got trapped by this judge for not really doing anything wrong, got sent to one of these $jails, and then killed himself. God knows what he faced in jail, but he couldn’t live another day. The judge was leaving court (iirc) one day, and the dead boy’s mother tore him a new one. The judge looked incensed, like who the hell are you, peasant? Who are you to treat me with anything less than awe and deference? If the mother had been able to, I bet she would have killed him with her bare hands.
