Michael Snyder wrote in 2011 the -- "The American Dream":
Back in 1969, a man named Herbert Krugman conducted a series of experiments regarding the effect of television on a person’s brainwaves. What he found was pretty startling:
Type ‘television’ and ‘low vibrational energy’ into a search engine, and it’ll quickly return the fact that watching a lot of TV is like undressing your mind and submerging it into a bath of negative energy. TV effectively numbs the left side of your brain and renders you helpless to your right brain which is incapable of decoding and critically analyzing the information being presented to you. Essentially, you go on ‘auto-pilot’.
‘Beta’ is considered a normal, awake state, while ‘Alpha’ waves are experienced in a deep relaxation or ‘daydreaming’ state. When in the Alpha state, a person is subjected to a passive learning experience with the right side of the brain at the wheel, leaving critical thinking skills behind.

Thus, everyone is put into a hypnotic state that author Wes Moore says, “produces highly functional, mobile ‘bio-survival robots.’” There’s a reason he dubbed television an “opiate of the masses“.
Okay, this is TV. I get it. But, what if people were just as affected by 'Smart' phones and even more? I just went into a Bar-and-Grill and no one there were talking to each other. They sat alone and paged through their cell phones as if it was their only world. What if the 'Smart' phone is the opposite of what it's called and makes you dumb? I'm telling everyone there's something wrong! We all need to socialize. Who's your neighbor? What's his interest? Does that person have knowledge that can help you? In my many years of living I have experienced extraordinary individuals who had skills and knowledge that got buried with the individual when they died. Every elderly person possesses a wealth of history, experiences, and skills we can learn form. I have been ranting about these damn 'Smart' phones for over 10 years. It's preventing a generation of people form learning from their forebears. I watch the kids gathering at school bus stops who never seem to interact with other kids like they did before. Them having "Smart' phones I have literally had to stop my car in the street because these kids were in the middle of the road transfixed on the content of their "Smart' phones. They acted like stray cattle that weren't suppose to be on the road.
Outstanding post! Couldn't have said it better myself.
A friend recommended an excellent book to me a few weeks ago entitled "The Psychology of Self Esteem". It's loaded with brilliant analysis and insights. However, what struck me the hardest was what the author said was the prevailing conventional psychologist/psychiatrist definition of a person being psychologically sound.
Are you ready for this? It explains everything in a tidy nutshell:
"Being well-adapted to the society/culture you're surrounded by". Oommph.
Think that one through in relation to the "society/culture" being rammed down our throats 24x7 (TV, media, movies, social media, smart phones, apps, public interaction, etc.) and it pretty much explains everything....
Everybody is "going along to get along" right into the pits of insanity...
Excellent information here..... I recall back in the 1980s there were 'hip' places that forbade wearing neck ties. If you entered the establishment, the risk of having your neck tie cut off with a scissors was the consequence. If places are defined socially by pubs and bars, why not have cell pone being barred from these imbibing establishments? Today, it's 'that bad', we need to again learn to socialize. I sincerely believe the great division with Americans today is the infatuation and addiction to 'Smart phones.
There's little doubt. I witness it every day in utter astonishment having nursed myself back to a burner phone some years back. The Facebook exec explaining the "dopamine hit" pretty much sums it up...
Morpheus, I'm glad you see this too. I often go out, as people do, to interact with people. Everywhere I go, including church, people are withdrawn to looking at their cell phones. In restaurants and cafe and pubs I see the same thing. Even when I "break the ice" when they are continuously thumbing and paging on their 'Smart' phones it is like the movie "Awakenings" that starred Robin Williams and Robert De Niro. They wake up as long as to respond to my spoken words and then they go back to sleep with the 'Smart' phone. IMHO, there really is a problem and it might be why this millennial generation is actually decreasing in population.
Turn off the television because that's where it's coming from
Ohh... It's afar more than that. It is the 'smart' phone that is far worse.
You are absolutely correct.
what if we uhhh use the smartphone/television to educate ourselves?
Dah.... Do you know how to improvise? Doi, how did any of us get here?
