We saw exactly the same thing with taking our dog to the vets.
Take them in for their vaccinations (compulsory in the uk) and they get sick. Take them in to be treated and they get something else, it usually happened in three's.
Then a couple of years with nothing, then the whole cycle repeats.
Our last dog we stopped taking her to the vet and she ended up getting a lot less issue, even though she was a pedigree (which have genetic issues typically).
I have always assumed the UK was like Canada when it comes to "healthcare".
You can have a rational conversation on healthcare, you can notice the issues, you can bemoan the outcomes, and lack of this, shortage of that and not enough of the other thing.....
But suggest that it should be replaced that something without those issues, better outcomes and more resources - and it is like you asked them to not sacrifice their kids to satan or something.
There are so many issues with the NHS it's hard to know where to start, it's just so federated and convoluted and awash with useless middle managers.
The UK made its biggest mistake when it got rid of the matrons who ran the wards.
