Producing alcohol from grain and fruit is nearly as old as human civilization itself. It was one of the first ways humans discovered to stretch the shelf life of perishable items such as apples, grapes, barley, etc. Human lifespans increased to around 80 years during an era when alcohol was widely available and enthusiastically consumed.
It is absolutely a fact that over-consumption of alcohol is bad for our health, but there are also a million other things to worry about that also affect our health. Personally I'm more concerned about hazardous chemicals than a few glasses of wine. At least we get to enjoy the wine.
