The rich transplants from Mass etc are, Portland is; some small towns have been overwhelmed with e.g. Somali refugees. Another case of outsiders moving in and trying to change the way the native people live.
But hard working people and hunters are still there . . .
I have a friend that lives in Maine and her area is very conservative.
Many of the people she and her husband hire for work around their home identify as conservative.
They live in a smaller town, though. Not anywhere near Portland.
Having just driven through coastal Maine to Acadia, I can say there is a lot of Red. It's the major cities and very touristy, artsy towns that virtue signal the loudest.

I think every state is like that. All red except major cities and big touristy areas. Very visible on county voting maps.
