Using logic, the old variant is no longer in the population so taking an out of date injection for it is contraindicated. Only the new variant in the population is relevant. Anyone having trouble grasping this is lost to the washing machine of propaganda.

Exactly - if we follow that logic - we would have to go back YEARS and YEARS to get all of the "relevant" flu vaccines before getting one this year.
