Touchy feely modes of correction only reinforces to the child that bad behavior is tolerated. Beat the kid on the buttocks and he will remember what corrective action really means. Just make sure two adults are present when the beatings happen so there can be cooberating witness statements. If the kid's parents don't want to punish their precious child, then it needs to happen in the school so the school won't be disrupted.
