Much the same as Lady Gaga. That appeared from nowhere to be right at the top of the tree.

There are entities in this world that operate using negative energies called "Loosh" They cannot live without this energy so promote hate and anger in others for them to feed from, the more loosh they can extract the more power they have.

As Tate is not in anyway a christian man I believe he is one of these Loosh harvesters, he certainly fits the template.
