There are no winners in this war. Only losers. The Russian army has been exposed as a fraction of the power the world feared. Europe has exposed itself as reliant on Russian energy and a bi-product of that, the entire world is suffering from inflation, as the covid stupidity and this war drain basic supplies.
The Ukraine as a nation has gained a national identity, but at a very steep cost, and one that will likely involve the glorification of violence and a single party government.
A year from now I think this war will have "ended", with the Ukraine regaining some territory they've lost in the south and Russia solidifying claims in the East, but the hatred will continue. Just as the fighting simmered since 2014 it will continue, with endless border skirmishes.
IMO, there is a simple solution but the pride on both sides won't allow it. Russia is a vast nation and underpopulated... let any person who thinks of themselves as Russian leave the Ukraine and go to Russia and let those who are Ukrainian determine their own path in their own nation.
But Russia is desperate for a land grab and also desperate to save themselves from the embarrassment of losing a war to a minor nation and Ukraine doesn't want to admit that some of their own citizens don't think of themselves as "Ukrainian"... so... it won't happen.
"Russia" and "desperate" should not be in the same sentence together...
