Neither the Post or the NYT is designed to make money. They're designed to spread propaganda, and get it picked up by other "news" sites.
Bezos doesn't give a flip about whether the WAPO makes money. His only concern is that it's now widely recognized as a propaganda site, which means it's less effective at propagating the narrative.
They miss the good ole days when Walter Cronkite could spread propaganda and everyone believed he was just a neutral observer reporting the news.
