They dropped it once they got push back on "why would the FBI have jurisdiction to be in possession of nuclear codes". If the codes really were the issue, the Military would be the only group that would be investigating it.

Whenever a narrative comes out. Their first phase is to throw shit at the wall and see what sticks and what doesn't. If it gets push back, they drop it.
