When my boys were young, my husband and I took a class at church based on Dobson's Bringing Up Boys. Now this was easily 20 years ago. But I remember a whole lot of emphasis placed on television shows, movies and commercials which specifically made dads, boys, men, etc. look dumb as hell. It's been going on for a while. Dobson was saying that [they] were systematically doing this on purpose and our job as parents of boys was to fight back.
Even Ray Romano's character Ray Barrone. I liked the show and thought it was funny. King of Queens was funny too. But the guys were made out to be sort of moronic grown children.

Anybody who’s interested should take a look at Jocko Willink’s books about The Warrior Kid.
