When I first posted on how Ranked Choice Voting was going to turn Alaska blue within 2 possibly in even one election, pointing out that few in Alaska had ever heard of her I was attacked thinking I was referring to Palin and not Peltola. Now people are coming to see just how quickly the political landscape can change. Mark my words the Rinos in the Republican national committee are taking note of this and will try to change Voting for the gop nominee to adopt ranked choice to leapfrog Pence over Trump in the 2024 nomination. If you don't think they'll try it then you're Not paying attention.
Absolutely Wolf! That’s exactly why I am trying to raise awareness. We seem to have the same interests - how do we change this in AK? Assuming you are up here also? And what can we do to bring more awareness of this to our other United States?
I’ll also add that I don’t really like putting myself out there in public - have on occasion for business, but I really have phobia about being front and center on a cause. However, I could possibly overcome that, given the right wing guy…
Ashland gave some great advice in his post about RCV - pursue the idea that it actually gives a voter two, maybe three votes - thus negating the one vote one person idea of most elections.
I don’t know how to find the thread I started about this, but some anon did quip in that RCV seemed fair … well it is only fair if you rank all the candidates.
As it turns out here in AK - people not ranking (including me) cause the votes to be skewed.
I would LOVE an autistic statistician to chime in on this process.
And I’ll also add that this publisher (Susan Downing), as much as I appreciate her writing, seemed to fall victim to the Begich political royalty of Alaskan democrats.
I’m not sure I would have appreciated Sarah being our congressional rep, but I sure as hell wasn’t going to vote for a Begich with their history!
Its already been to court. Maybe a ballot initiative to overturn it? It isn't going to be easy to get rid of it. The cheating and combining the measure with dark money politics in the first place was bogus.
It wasnt until After I voted that I heard facts about Kurka, Begich, etc that would have changed my vote.
I'm never going back on fb, the election gov page is a farce and people guard good info site tighter than good wildfire sites.. what, are they afraid we're going to crash 'em?
So then we need to do a ballot initiative? We need a strong leader to put it forward - perhaps Palin might? If we encourage her? Or is she outta here? Idk, but this voting method isn’t right if everyone doesn’t rank all the choices. That’s what happened here I think. And I was part of the confusion.
Well, it's better to not rank anyone you wouldn't want elected. That does mean that your vote will probably end up worthless. Hence the problem with RCV.
I ranked my #1 choice, and actually a 2nd, but gave 3rd and 4th ranks to that 2nd choice, which nullified the 3rd and 4th ranks.. vote worthless at 3rd and 4th, my choice. The machine alerted and I had to click cast to let it through. It is a valid ballot doing it that way, and a valid 1st and 2nd ranking.
The wrong way would be to give 1st (or any rank) to multiple candidates.
I'm just a regular person, who tries to study and learn. I don’t have answers really, I do know the difference between right and wrong. RCV is wrong.

We left Alaska last November, live in Florida now but Alaska still is dear to my heart
Damn man! Need a wingman/woman up here! But so hope you and the MRS enjoy your retirement ❤️

Here is u/ashlandog with thoughts before our first RCV election:

Ashland took it upon himself (I’m assuming he is a Man) to help me get the message out about Ranked Choice Voting (RCV).
Let this be a lesson for the lower 48 if this becomes a “choice” for your elections.
Watch and learn as this system is used here in Alaska and in Maine.
U/ashlanddog I missed the second d in the message below.
Anyway - our (wolf, mine, and yours) thoughts 💭 of how ranked choice voting is going to screw up politics came to fruition in AK …
Where do we go from here?

I would hope Palin would fight and do an initiative and or sue.
