Red background: they were probably working with the color of the bricks of the building. No other color would make sense.
I just now watched it (CBS version). Platitudes and gaslighting galore. Sheer lies from beginning to end. I couldn't figure out who his intended audience was. He was clearly not speaking to the "MAGA Republicans," whom he cast into the outer darkness as irredeemable schismatics. So, who is left to be "united"? It seems everyone else, whom he imagines to be the majority. It was strange to fathom whether he was simply speaking platitudes to the choir, or gaslighting the useful idiots.
His political message seemed to boil down to a few points: (1) Ein Volk. Ein Reich. (We must be unified---or else.) (2) Democracy is the most important principle. (Where Democracy = rule by Democrats. We protect it by VOTING...and the MAGA people are a threat to the success of VOTING.) It is important to accept election results without any regard to their legitimacy.
He seemingly doesn't understand (or understands and fears to admit) that MAGA Republicans are the future of the Republican Party, putting RINOs out to pasture. How 75 million avid Trump supporters can be a fringe element begs explanation.
I think the bottom line is that he is anxious about the exposure of election fraud and illegitimacy, and thinks the answer is to double down on all the fraud of his regime. (Big Lies...where have we heard this before?)
Watch the beginning again. White light was working fine before they switched to the red light. The white light made a very stately background, perfect for a Presidential address to the nation.
I did track down the event and watched all of it. Not a keeper. The ambience wavered between this and that. No accounting for taste. But given they wanted to use a color, no other color would have worked. Let us take it as a temperature reading of their collective psyche.
