"Deus Ex Machina" - God out of the machine - was a cop out device used in ancient Greek plays. The plot would tie itself in knots so much that you could not possibly imagine any way out then, suddenly, the gods would be flown in on wires and declare everything solved. Play ends.

I agree. The plot is now so convoluted that only some kind of unforeseen event can help. I do wonder whether it will be down to an unexpected godly intervention or whether if will be down to the Fates or Moirai. That might tie in better with the NCSWIC idea.
...God's hand is in all of mankind's machinations....
