We recently added a beautiful young dog to our family. For several reasons, we opted to use a breeder; and discovered several days later when her paperwork was mailed (facility owner was OOT at our pick up) that she'd been given a C19 injection. I was shocked as I never even considered this being carried over to animals/family pets.
Nothing changes for us. We prayed for the right dog for us to be made apparent if we were to take in another dog, and she is a perfect and unexpectedly wonderful fit w/the family (born on our anniversary last year, no less!). We will make the choices we were already opting for to protect and promote a healthy expansive life for her and let God handle what is outside our control.
It's just beyond outrageously dystopian for me/us though (the ways this nonsense continues to play out).
We stopped giving our dogs the routine yearly shots about 5 years ago mostly out of laziness but topped off with a thought of WHY considering they are house dogs taken outside on leash and always with us. Long story short, our doberman who has a life expectancy of 9 to 12 years is 12 years old but other than a little bit of graying she still acts like a puppy except for when getting up after laying for 15 mins or more which seems normal considering her age. Thus, we are not sure if the dog vaccines are really all that necessary especially if you do not plan to board them or take them to dog parks.
Lots of thoughts I could share on the topic of pet healthcare. Per my husband, my MIL didn't take their indoor cats to vets for anything beyond the basics throughout his childhood (due to finances) and the cats all had long lives (15-20 years). We have followed a similar path w/our cats with similar results.
We read an interesting article from a holistic Vet re: all the very random particulars that have to occur for a dog to get Heartworm; yet every vet we've had for our family dogs has heavily pushed this med. 💲💲💲for meds...as with humans, so with pets.
