I saw elsewhere it’s the stance they use standing to attention by a casket at a state funeral? As virtually all other situations in the drill book assume them holding a weapon of some sort? I’m not US, let alone military though, so open to correction.
I’m just going to reiterate this is not the position of attention in any branch of the US military.
Even at an Order Arms (Attention with a rifle) legs are together not shoulder width apart. In fact no position with the firearm is done outside of legs together outside of an actual parade march. Correction there is a parade rest with a rifle.
I’ve been out for over a decade now.
