Made illegal during a certain 1930s government and one of those laws the replacement government didn't feel needed repeal. I remember a few years back a family moved to Germany who were home schooling and the government was trying to take the kids from the parents and wouldn't let them go back where they came from either. I think it ended when they snuck out and back to Canada. but i'm nor certain.
