Maybe it was by chance, but when my wife and I moved to Tennessee, we found this little place on 1.5 acres out of town. A deal fell through on another house we were looking at, and we were pretty bummed, but we looked at one more and that was it. This place has a 360 degree view and it is almost as if it were built for self-defense - the guy who sold it to us fought the Japanese on Saipan and he was a tough old Marine. He found out I was Navy and that sealed the deal. Every day when I leave to go to work, I look around at the property and revel in the strategic placement of the house, up on a hill, set way back from the street. I think that old salt had something in mind when he built it, because he hated the government and it is almost as if he anticipated that one day in the future he would have to defend it. Sounds crazy I know, but boy are we fortunate. They won't even make it up the driveway if it all goes to shit.
