Impeachment is (mostly) meaningless, as the Dems found out after impeaching Trump twice. Conviction is solely a tool for the Senate.
There are 34 Senate seats up for grabs in the midterms. 20 R's and 14 D's. IF we hold every R seat and gain every D seat, we'll still only have 64 seats. Not enough for a 2/3's majority (66 or 67) to convict, unless 2-3 Dems break ranks and vote with the Republicans.
I do NOT see that happening. So basically, IMO, McConnell is meaningless.
