It is said that when Nero put Peter to death, Peter did not want to die the same way as Jesus so he asked to be crucified upside down. Considering the saintly aura on the card and it being the twelfth card (for twelve disciples), I have a strong suspicion the card might be depicting Peter, or the disciples in general.
