The only reason why Ukraine is even perceived to be gaining any ground in the war is that Putin has his kid gloves on. He is being as gentle as he can with Ukraine to preserve as much human life as possible. If Putin took the gloves off, and went full Blitzkrieg, Ukraine would fall under complete Russian control in under 24 hours. This would of course entail untold loss of life and cataclysmic destruction, which is why Putin is going slow and steady.
...that is changing....
You are correct, sir ( with a little of the late Phil Hartman there).
On July 7, in a session with Duma leaders and party factions heads, Putin said:
"Today we hear that they want to defeat us on the battlefield. Well, what can I say? Let them try. We have already heard a lot about the West wanting to fight us ”to the last Ukrainian.“ This is a tragedy for the Ukrainian people, but that seems to be where it is going. But everyone should know that, by and large, we have not started anything in earnest yet."
To me, that says a lot. I believe Russia has put an end to the "soft war" special military operation and now will usher in a massive military operation.
