a climbing or trailing woody-stemmed plant related to the grapevine.

I thought on that as well, hoping the etymology of "divine" actually referenced the same "vine" from "vinegar"

Why bother with the alteration, though?

DeWine is already talking about the grapevine.

Basically, the message would be circular. There's a hanging "yeah, and?" there I can't follow.

If it is plant comms, it may be just that DeVine is scouting out how Trump runs his endorsements internally in order to find a hole to pick at.

De-Vine maybe could be taken to mean "separated from the vine?" (Sorta like depower, etc.) DeWine has been a RINO in the past, but now he is perhaps cut off from whatever support he used to have?
