You joke, but I wrote to an old contact asking for some contract work because one of the industries I work in is tanking - he told me yesterday I could not have had better timing…and I’m making more than ever have.
One factor they didn't take into account. The 50+ group. It can be extremely hard to compete with a young person for a job. I remember my Dad was laid off at 63 and had to wait for 3 years for SS. The boss closed the shop, retooled, renamed and hired all young people. My husband lost his job in 2008 and the company kept my husband's apprentice. He didn't mind though, he was all broken down and beat up but he waiting until 2017 to file disability 5 years before retirement. It can be tough out there if you are over 50. Rush said that disability was the new social security. And I think it has just gotten worse.
