In that, it was supposed to aim for something greater for mankind in their own way, but got infiltrated and was used by the cabal for the sake of social engineering, political and economical control like the Vatican did back in the day, or is it just one of the cabal's fronts from the get go ?

All human organizations/institutions that wield any type of power/control become corrupted over time. It takes about 2 generations (40 years) for them to be completely infiltrated.
I have yet to discover an exception to this rule.
