The 24th of September seems significant this year because it is the last day of the Jewish year, which is their day of atonement, and it coincides with the last day of a jubilee year in which debts were to be expunged. 9/11 and several stock market crashes happened around that time. There are other coincidental things, but that is what the buzz is about from a religious standpoint.
