True. How old were the cars? The warranty is for current production cars. Battery tech is constantly improving. The Lithium Sulfate tech will likely move the bar much higher
Not sure exactly..but if they had to replace their batteries after 5 years..and this was a year ago or so...hmm..let me see...carry the 1....um..about 6 years ago. Of course battery tech is always improving but we're talking about now..not 10 years down the line.
Also, the old batteries are filling our landfills with toxic chemicals. There's only 5 battery recycling plants nationwide.
EV batteries are classified as hazardous waste. So "legally" they should not be found in any landfill. The batteries are stored and inventoried. That is how we are getting our feedstock.
The battery contains either Lithium Carbonate or Lithium Peroxide which is ~$70K/mton, Nickle which is selling for $25K/ton, Manganese, Stainless Steel - depending upon the age of the battery, it may have Cobalt which is running $80k/mton
That's a lot of money to be throwing away - that's why there are battery recycling companies coming online this year, and next.
Note, too, that the price of Lithium is rocketing.
