Something strange is going on, and it's not the first time I've noticed this with storms I've tracked. I've checked several wind-speed maps, like the one at the bottom of this page: https://www.trackthetropics.com/ian-2022/ and the highest wind speed I can get is about 105mph.
Good link.
The damage will verify storm strength.
That's how tornadoes are measured, not hurricanes. I appreciate your skepticism but overstating hurricane strength doesn't seem to make much sense. Remember, the highest winds are in a very concentrated area near the eye wall and do not extend out very far. I'm clear over in Melbourne and winds are gusting to 40 mph right now.
I'm in the lakeland area. Rain, not even as bad yet as a summer thunder storm. Burst of wind but not much yet. Son in Sarasota, windy, rain but so far the creek down. The stree is flowing g normal. He said not eve a puddle yet. So we will see.
The damage will verify storm strength.
