My dark-horse theory is this was a white-hat operation to force peace negotiations so gas can be restarted through the overland pipelines running through Poland and Ukraine. If this is a black-hat op, the boomerang will be the breakup of the EU and a return to nationalism throughout Western Europe. Germany has a very good reason to want peace now - Russia loses (at least temporarily) it's leverage for supplying gas before a peace deal is in the books and Trump jumped on the chance to offer to head up the negotiations.
NS 2 was never operational - take that into account. NS 1 was only supplying about 20% of capacity at time of explosion. NS1 has capacity of 59 billion cubic meters. The Poland pipeline can carry 33 billion cubic meters, Ukraine has 2 Russian pipelines that run through them that supply different parts of Europe - they account for about 16% of all of Europe's natural gas imports (when in operation) - I could not find an exact volume for those quickly but it's a lot.
