Almost debt free. Mortgage is almost paid off. Less than two years left on a 2016 mortgage that was first set up to be paid off in 2046.

I don't think we have two years left. But if the doo doo hits the fan it will be bad and I doubt the banks will have the ability to repossess houses anyways since there will be millions to take back. Who knows, when this begins your institution that's holding the note might not even exist. Weird times ahead, fren. Get your preps in order, make nice with the local law enforcement, and when the repo man comes knocking on your door call the cops and get the repo man off your door step.
My gut tells me this month (Red October) will change everything. I could pay off my mortgage but I would be just about wiping out my cash savings. For now I think it is better to hold that cash in reserve just in case.
I agree. Cash will be king. Heck, I'm taking cash out of the bank in smallish amounts so eyebrows from the Fed Gov won't be raised. When banks go down you will never be able to get cash out of them. Have it in hand now. Plus get some garden seeds from a place that sells only non-GMO seeds. Baker Creek seeds in southern Missouri is my goto seed company. A (just a little) pricey, but you are getting 100% good seeds. Plus get canning supplies while they are easy to come by. Jars and lids. Focus on getting extra, extra lids because, once again, when the doo doo hits the fan supplies will be non-existant. Get an All American Canner #921, pricey but well worth the outlay of funds. Look towards the future when you have to provide food for your family, but grocery stores no longer exist and gasoline is not available. Also, a wood stove would be something to consider.

I printed out an amortization calculation. Every month I circle how far along I am. In the beginning I was able to pay off about 6 months for every payment. Now because the principal payment is so high I am only paying off about 4 months with each payment.
For anybody that doesn't know what I am talking about. Get a hold of your amortization calculation. Look at what you owe now. You will see how much of the payment for each month is going towards principal and how much towards interest. If you make extra payment look at what you will be paying towards principal for the next few months. Figure out how many months of principal you will pay off with the extra payment. That will tell you how many months you cut your mortgage on the back end by making that extra payment.
Yeah, I'm getting messed with pretty good. Someone tried to break into my car and a seal was broken so all my brake fluid would dump out while I was driving.
