Britain left Poland hanging high and dry after signing a protectorate agreement with Poland in 1939. The whole scheme of it was Poland would egg Germany into military action by executing German civilians living within its borders as a result of The Treaty of Versailles, and redrawn borders. https://www.wintersonnenwende.com/scriptorium/english/archives/articles/wrsynopsis.html
