I know the term "stringer" as meaning a local freelance reporter, especially someone in a small town/neighborhood who just works part-time to cover the high school football games, or the opening of a new shop in town, or the Fourth of July parade.

Stringers cover small local stories - they are the news in a small town.

We are all "stringers" when it comes to Q. We are the news now and we are the ones who figure it out.

No idea if that's what "stringer" in the post means, but it did jump out at me.
