Ozzy wasn't handed the bat, it was thrown on stage by Mark Neal of Des Moines Iowa on January 20th 1982, Diary of a Madman tour. It was very metal. 1 month later 25 year old guitarist Randy Rhoads was killed in a small plane crash. Bad couple weeks for Ozzy.
