Also, notice it's always the parent that passively orbits the show that witnesses the inserts, and never the one that watches the shows with their child.

In the UK the flicker rate is 50 Hz or 100 Hz (dependent on your TV). Anyway, it's linked to the mains voltage AC cycles per second. Elsewhere (e.g. USA) it might be 60 Hz.
