Probably In case he needs someone whacked or otherwise has use for illicit connections. Ex-Cons unless they’re going completely fresh start/new life. Usually maintain ties and contact with people they met on the inside.
Surprised though he’s employing them directly. Usually there’s a 3rd party go between on payroll who handles that sort of thing. Most politicians/political candidates would not willingly risk their reputations.
