That's not what he meant, and you should know it if you know how to look up that verse in context.
That sword is a sword of division in relationships, and a warning that conflict and persecution will come to his followers on behalf of his name. Jesus specifically prohibited ANY physical conflict or acts of violence in his name, because he couldn't have been any more clear "my Kingdom is not of this world". This is exactly why the Jews rejected him, because he did not come as a conquering Messiah according to their expectations. He came to deal with something much bigger than geopolitical issues.
Jesus actually said: Luk 22:36 Then He said to them, “But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one.
