Fascinating story that I never heard of before. Thanks for sharing! Bet it's hard not to think about the history while you're fishing.

What a beautiful and touching ceremony to honor this tragic loss. The photos on the link show the loving spirit of the locals. Would love to visit someday!
https://www.nps.gov/places/000/ocracoke-british-cemetery.htm alot of history on the island.. Don't forget Edward Teach ! (Black Beard)..
Great link...so much history, with tragedy caused by stupidity during the war years. I'm proud of the residents that buried the British sailors who washed ashore. And, all the vessels lost to Germany because we were so arrogant, never thinking we could be in danger on our coastlines. 💔
The Texas coast has a rich Pirate history also. Jean Lafitte sailed all up and down the coast from Galveston to Sabine Lake that connects directly to the Gulf and then they sailed up the Neches River from Sabine Lake. There was a section on the Texas coast called "no Man's Land" which began at the Neches River during the time that Spain owned Texas to the Sabine River when Louisiana was owned by France. Really fascinating stuff!
Thanks fren!
