This picture makes me sad though, because you can see the tower on Notre Dame, and the fact that it's gone now and Macron is planning to turn the church's roof into some ugly metal and glass thing with "gardens" to make it "eco-friendly" makes me feel sick.
I was incredibly lucky to see the church more than ten years ago when it was still in it's original state. We'll probably never see it like that again. The fire was NOT an accident.
Same here, fren. Did you take the tour up to the bell towers and roof? Funny thing is, when I was inside the bell towers and saw all of the huge wooden beams that were inside, I thought at the time this would be quite a fire hazard, given the age of the wood. Who knew then what would later happen to it? I took lots of photos while I was up there -- so glad I did!
They should restore everything to appear as it did, IMHO.
No I didn't get to go up the bell towers, I think they might have been under repair at that time too if I recall correctly, I remember scaffolds up inside the main part of the church too. But I definitely took lots of pictures, including the Rose windows. Glad I did.
I just tried to look up any info on the restoration, and I honestly can't tell what they're planning to do with the spire restoration. There doesn't seem to be a lot of recent info on it, it's all from 2019 or 2020, but I seem to recall Macron saying this year or last that they were going to "update" the spire into that metal and glass thing but now I can't find proof of that anywhere. So really I have no idea what they're doing, other than that they'll have it finished before the 2024 Olympics.
If they haven't started on the renovations by now, then it'll never be done by 2024. Gee, what do you suppose happened to all the money that was donated to repair it? 🙄
I know that they at least cleaned up and reinforced the main structure of the church, but on the actual renovation of the roof and spire I have no idea.
