If they did manage, I suspect it's not very contagious. That's the general rule with viruses: they can be any combination of two out of the three: deadly, contagious, or with a long incubation, but almost never all three. If it's deadly and contagious, it burns it before it can spread far. If it's deadly with a long incubation, you practically have to inject it to catch it. If it's contagious with a long incubation, well, everybody pretty much has it already, and it's not deadly, so who cares?
