The real point is who was doing the rounding up of people back then. I highly doubt a bunch of whiteys and even Jews were just waltzing into Africa and rounding up all the blacks for slavery. For one, to this day you will come across all sorts of fucked up diseases in Africa. 600 years ago would have been no different.

I don't think the word slave is synonymous with black south African. They probably enslaved whoever was convenient at the time.
