mommy, why do we call them "black" people? because clearly they are brown.
Mixed. There were full-blooded black people in my southern town who were "so black they shined," as the old folks would say. There was little to no brown in their color.
BTW a black person once questioned me about the term "colored people." He was asking about what color he was and what color I was. It's funny now that people are saying "people of color," which is precisely equivalent to "colored people."
... And then there's the NAACP. (Who would switch it to NAAPC, except that they don't want people to notice the switch.)
Founded by white people. Rush called it the National Association for the Advancement of Light Colored People.
