There's too much of an advantage fighting a proxy war. Going direct with Russia is plain stupid. The United States and NATO is not prepared for an all-out confrontation with Russia. This is why I believe it is all "huff-and-puff". The message to Russia. Is to get them to think twice about regime change in Ukraine.
Russia is already prepared for this. The Zbigniew Brzezinski "Encirclement" strategy is well recognized by Russia. As a result, they have been using a combination of diplomacy and military modernization and build-up ever since. The Russians will make the adjustments to counter any possibility of it happening.
This is why I don't believe a direct conflict will happen. It's all a bluff to counter the 300 thousand Russian conscription in the Donbass for the coming Russian counter-offensive.
