Slippery slope wasn't even a logical fallacy until they tried to 1984 it. It was just used too liberally for things that weren't a slippery slope.
At its core, a slippery slope would mean that you accelerate faster and faster and stopping becomes more difficult directly related to your speed.
So, gay marriage, tolerance, etc. did turn out to be a slippery slope, and it was never a fallacy. It was directly evident because how they did it was not appropriate or the right way.
I tend to dislike the very notion that it was ever a logical fallacy, when it simply wasn't the case.
