IMHO, I believe this is all big bluff. It would be a big mistake for the United States to forfeit their proxy war status with Russia. A direct war with Russia is insanity. What this commander is really saying is the 101st is combat ready if Russia attacks a NATO country (ergo, Romania).
...anyone with an iota of common sense knows Russia has no desire to invade Romania...
