Could all the delays and court battles just be a way to delay the purchase to give them time to wipe the evidence clean? Been thinking this was a possibility. If I were "them" thats what I would be doing. Start creating a clean version for the transition. Put dead switch in place. When the day of acquisition comes pull the plug and walk away.
