Ya that shit is a lie. I work in tech industry and women get promoted when they don't deserve it ALL THE TIME. Their skill level is low. However, there are still a lot of smart, hardworking women that deserve their promotions.
Curious, are you on the coast? I'm a women in Tech but in the Midwest. It's really easy for me to get a Tech job, but almost impossible to get promoted. Everyone wants to keep me working myself into a grave in Support roles (Help Desk, Tier 2). Maybe I suck at my job, but I'm thinking it's more along the lines of keeping me from interrupting their "Old Boys Club" meetings and lunches. Honestly I've had at least 7 Tech jobs and not one ever had a woman in Tech Leadership.
