I hate this plexiglass "protection" with a passion because I rely heavily on reading lips when talking to people at the stores. When they have that shield up, there are a lot of reflections on the shield, especially light from the ceiling so I had to move around until I can see the person's lips.
Sometimes I had to move around a lot, making myself look like an idiot in the process and telling them I can't read their lips, has failed because they'd be busy staring at me (or saying something that I can't see due to the reflection) and doing nothing about it.
This was at the beginning so whenever I come across a shield, I immediately tell them I'm deaf and then I ask for a piece of paper so we both can communicate on that to avoid the struggle.
Now most places don't have the shield anymore so now I don't have to act like a retard.
Thanks for explaining your experience. I am glad those barriers are gone, mostly. The whole thing was so retarded and annoying to those of us with good hearing. I can't imagine how it would be with poor hearing. Well, now I can. Thanks for sharing.
